Chronology of cameras COMI
C.O.M.I. (Costruzioni Ottico Meccaniche Italiane) produced very few units of cameras, divided into two different models.
The Luxia and the Luxia II are two very small cameras with central shutters, beautifully finished and well named. The difference between the Luxia and the Luxia II appears to be the maximum shutter speed, which was increased to 1/250 on the II.
The reptile skin covering suggests that this camera was intended to be slipped into a lady's handbag. The covering can be in various colors: red, blue, green, or more soberly black (for gentlemen?). There are also gold-plated variants.
Due to the size and thickness of the camera, it is impossible to use 135 film. Instead, a 35 mm film, which goes from one specific cartridge to another, is used. The film, cut to the appropriate length, allows for 18 photos.
These cameras did not achieve much success, which seems to have been fatal to the company.
